El Corazón Can Suck Coach’s ‘You Know What’
In my 20 years of gigging I’ve always gotten my shit off stage quickly to pack up backstage so the next band could get on stage quickly. They call that “courtesy.” Most venues understand this and provide the bands at least a small corner to move their gear to so they can pack up and enjoy the rest of the show.
But at Seattle’s El Corazón this weekend, they made me take my drums out to the sidewalk corner to break down and pack up. They even shoved my volunteer roadie and threw a fit when I tried to go get my drum cases. Not to mention they were grabbing my drums too.
I was pissed. When I questioned this policy and asked them why I wasn’t told about this at load in, they kicked me out and told me I couldn’t come back in.
Take your drums out to the street corner to break down?!?!? WTF?!?!? Really?!?!? Even after we pre-sold $300 worth of tickets.
Breaking down a drum kit on the street corner with homeless people watching you is fucking insulting. What an absolutely ridiculous policy. There was no reason I couldn’t take my drums off stage to break down and pack up backstage. There was PLENTY of room.
So, I stood on the street corner next to my drums and had a cigarette while a friend went and got my truck four blocks down and a band mate went in to get my cases.
When I told the manager it was a bullshit policy and that no one explained the policy to me during load in, he pulled out the arrogant “We have touring bands coming through, etc.” bullshit. So, my volunteer roadie says to the manager, “Yes… But, have you noticed that the touring bands never play here twice.”
Needless to say, I missed the rest of the show.

I guess I’m not the only one who feels this way: http://www.thestranger.com/seattle/el_corazon/Location?oid=25162

I just got back from seeing a show at El Corazon. The “security” staff just seems to get-off on being jack-asses. I shoot pictures for several bands but this show was a no cameras allowed show. No, it did not make me happy to have to slog all the way back to my car in the rain to drop off my camera. But when I sighed heavily because I was rudely informed I needed to be searched a second time I was told by the a-hole at the door he didn’t need my attitude. I replied that I didn’t need his either. As I entered I was followed by a second “security” person and told that if I did not like their policies I didn’t need to come into the venue. I paid 20$ for this kind of treatment? I told him I’d write a letter. I had not had a drink all night but he banned me from the bar. BOYCOTT EL CORAZON!
Spread the word, Rod!
D-bags. There was TONS of room in the “green area” to the side of the stage, where all the bands loaded IN. Dudes should be working outdoor metal festivals, not a mediocre Seattle venue riding off expired grunge cred fumes.
Sure was fun getting booked with a couple of Christian Hip Pop bands, though. Their audience was ka-RAZY!!
Hey guys,
Thanks for finding our site and posting our link on your page. We are sick of these fucking assholes and their douchebagery. We are starting a movement to shut this very unsafe venue down before someone gets killed. I would say before someone gets seriously injured but that is to late. Check this link to read about the guy who got his spleen ruptured by these worthless pieces of shit.

I know most of these guys and they are a bunch of scared little pussies. They act all tough when their together at their shitty bottom feeder job (let’s face it security is a half step up from janitor) but confront one of these pussies on the street and they will run like a little bitch and cry for a cop to protect them.
We will not stop until this place is gone and buried. We are planing a full blown protest soon so check back with us often for more info. WE are taking OUR SCENE back!!! You can not stop us!!! It is over full blown shitazon!!!!
Here are the posters of yours for people to download, print and spread around:
Boycott El Corazón!
This just happened to the musicians in The Space Cretins recently! I am pissed and sa a poster today on Ballard Ave that says BOYCOTT EL C!!!!
As long as I have been going to El Corazon, Even when it was Graceland it has been their policy to make bands break down outside. @ Rod As a photographer you should know that PHOTO POLICIES ARE DICTATED BY THE BANDS NOT THE VENUE.
Interesting… But, they still should have let me know what the policy was during load in. I would have complied.
